FRSC Launches Nationwide Intelligence-Led Special Patrol to Reduce Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a nationwide Zonal Special Intervention Patrol, deploying 12 intelligence-driven operations across its Zonal Commands to tackle the leading causes of road traffic crashes in different parts of the country.

The initiative is aimed at reducing fatalities and improving road safety through targeted enforcement against dangerous driving practices and other traffic violations that continue to endanger lives on Nigerian roads.

In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ohaeri, the FRSC said the Special Intervention Patrol was approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, to enable each Zonal Command address its unique road safety challenges based on intelligence and crash trends within their respective jurisdictions.

According to the statement, the operation combines intensive traffic law enforcement, sustained public enlightenment campaigns, stakeholder engagement, emergency rescue preparedness and increased operational visibility to ensure safer highways nationwide.

The Corps explained that the intervention is designed to achieve measurable reductions in road traffic crashes by focusing on offences that have consistently contributed to avoidable deaths and injuries.

Speaking on the initiative, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described the operation as a major departure from conventional traffic enforcement, noting that the Corps is now adopting intelligence-led strategies capable of producing greater and more sustainable results.

He said each of the 12 operations has been specifically designed to confront dangerous road user behaviours responsible for a significant number of crashes across the country.

The FRSC boss reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads, urging motorists, commercial drivers and other road users to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with officers during the special operations.

He also stressed that public support, responsible driving and adherence to road safety rules remain essential to reducing crashes and making Nigerian roads safer for all.
