NDLEA Intercepts Cocaine, Opioids Hidden in Export Cartons, Destroys 65,000kg of Skunk
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted consignments of cocaine and opioids concealed in export cartons bound for the United Kingdom and Australia during operations carried out in Lagos State.
According to the agency, the seizures were made on Friday, May 15, 2026, at a courier company during the examination of outbound shipments.
NDLEA said officers recovered 170 grams of cocaine hidden inside the walls of a carton containing clothes destined for Australia.
The agency also discovered a separate consignment containing opioids concealed in another carton heading to the United Kingdom. The items recovered included 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol, and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives raided Ejeonu village in Ukwuani Local Government Area where they destroyed 27,500 kilograms of skunk spread across 11 hectares of farmland and recovered an additional 22.9 kilograms of the substance.
The agency said a 52-year-old suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, was arrested during a follow-up operation in Obiaruku.
A separate raid in Orogun village, Ughelli North Local Government Area, led to the destruction of another 37,500 kilograms of skunk cultivated on 15 hectares of farmland. Officers also recovered 55.4 kilograms of the substance and arrested Godwin Vincent Osadera, aged 30.
NDLEA said the combined operations in Delta State resulted in the destruction of 65,000 kilograms of skunk.
In Kaduna State, operatives recovered 361 kilograms of skunk during a raid in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria and arrested a suspect identified as Husaini Suleiman.
The agency also intercepted 1,989 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed inside bags of garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. A 35-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Hassan, was arrested and later handed over to another security agency for further investigation.
In the Federal Capital Territory, NDLEA operatives arrested a 29-year-old businessman, Ogadi Peter, accused of producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for social events.
The suspect was arrested in the Life Camp area of Abuja, where officers recovered 800 grams of skunk and 2.7 kilograms of drug-laced cookies.
Other operations across the country led to additional arrests and seizures in Ogun State, Taraba State, Oyo State, Edo State and Kano State.
The agency also said its War Against Drug Abuse campaign continued in schools across several states through sensitisation lectures aimed at discouraging substance abuse among students and youths.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations and praised commands across the country for balancing enforcement actions with drug abuse prevention and awareness campaigns.
