Ndume tasks Army to secure lives, property in N’East

The Chairman; Senate Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has condemned terrorists’ incessant attacks on some communities of Borno and Yobe states.
The over a decade long insurgency has claimed 36,400 lives with property worth $9.2 billion (about N3.42 trillion) in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
While lamenting terrorists’ attacks Thursday in an interview in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, he urged security agencies to intensify their efforts to secure people’s lives and property to restore peace in Northeast.
According to him, the renewed attacks in Gur, Zira I & II, Egiri villages in Biu Local Government Area of the state has forced people to flee for safety.
He added that several houses and shops were torched by the insurgents that operate in gun trucks and motorcycles.
He said that the last week’s attack in Marte council, is worrisome, and the residents were returned by Governor Babagana Zulum in January, 2021.
He, therefore, called on the humanitarian agencies, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately provide relief items to victims of recent Boko Haram attacks.
Ndume, who represents Borno south senatorial district also said: “I want to strongly condemn renewed attacks by Boko Haram in some parts of Borno and Yobe state which claimed many lives and properties worth billions of naira.
“Tens of thousands of innocent residents, were also displaced into camps and host communities without shelter and protection.”
Besides, he added: “Although security agencies are doing well in the fight against Boko Haram and other criminalities, I urged security agencies, particularly the Military to intensify efforts towards restoration of peace in the region.
“The renewed attacks in my constituency of Gur, Zira I & II, Egiri villages in Biu Local Government Area forced thousands of people displaced after destruction of their houses and property.”
“I, therefore, called on the humanitarian agencies including National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) among others to immediately provide relief items to victims of the recent Boko Haram onslaught in the region.”
