The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening international cooperation in the fight against money laundering, illicit financial flows and other transnational financial crimes following a high-level engagement with the Republic of Türkiye.
The commitment was made on Friday when the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Nigeria, His Excellency Mehmet Poroy, paid a courtesy visit to the NFIU Headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of the NFIU, Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, emphasised the importance of stronger global partnerships in addressing emerging financial crimes, noting that international collaboration remains critical to safeguarding the integrity of the global financial system.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation between Nigeria and Türkiye in key areas, including financial intelligence, information sharing, capacity building and institutional collaboration to enhance efforts against cross-border financial crimes.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering closer collaboration to tackle evolving financial threats while promoting transparency, accountability and economic stability.
The engagement also highlighted the growing partnership between Nigeria and Türkiye and its potential to support intelligence-led responses to financial crimes, strengthen national security and improve global financial integrity.
The NFIU reiterated its commitment to working closely with international partners to enhance financial intelligence capabilities, advance transparency and build resilient systems capable of effectively responding to emerging financial and economic crimes.
