Nigeria is positioning itself to take advantage of the rapidly expanding global halal economy, with the Federal Government seeking to strengthen the country’s capacity to produce, export, attract investment and compete in international markets.
The halal economy has grown beyond food to become a broad global ecosystem covering finance, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, tourism, manufacturing and digital commerce.
The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, stated this at the Lagos Halal Leadership Reception, where she delivered a message on behalf of Vice President Kashim Shettima to policymakers, investors, industry leaders and other stakeholders gathered to explore opportunities within the sector.
She said the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is laying the institutional foundation for a competitive Nigerian halal economy capable of creating opportunities for businesses, attracting capital, strengthening value chains and opening access to new international markets.
According to the minister, Nigeria’s ambition must extend beyond policies, meetings and conferences to tangible economic outcomes.
She noted that success would be measured by the ability of Nigerian businesses to become export-ready, attract productive investments, develop stronger industries and successfully take locally produced goods and services to markets across Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
The minister emphasised that Nigeria possesses the resources, large consumer market, human capital and entrepreneurial drive required to compete effectively in the global halal economy.
“What we need now is bold execution,” she said.
She added that the future of the halal economy is global and Nigeria must position itself not merely as a participant but as a leading player in the emerging market.
“Halal without limits. Opportunities without borders. Nigeria ready to lead.”
