The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have reaffirmed their commitment to deeper inter-agency collaboration aimed at enhancing security architecture in Edo State.
This followed a courtesy and familiarisation visit by the State Comptroller of NIS, O.S. Ibeabuchi, to the State Commandant of NSCDC, Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, at the Command Headquarters in Benin City.
Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Ibeabuchi expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation, noting that the engagement was part of efforts to consolidate existing relationships and foster stronger cooperation between both agencies.
Drawing an analogy, he said, “When a fowl arrives in a new environment, it stands on one leg until it feels safe and comfortable enough to put the other leg down. I must sincerely thank you, Commandant, for making me and my team feel at home.”
He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration, particularly in intelligence sharing, joint training, and operational support, noting that such synergy would enhance efforts to maintain peace, protect critical national assets, and ensure public safety across the state.
The Comptroller further assured of his commitment to strengthening the partnership between both agencies, emphasising that effective security management depends on trust, cooperation, and proactive engagement.
In his response, Commandant Ayinla described the visit as timely and strategic, reiterating that security is a shared responsibility that requires coordinated efforts among all relevant agencies.
“We are all serving under the same national mandate. Your Minister is my Minister, and this underscores the unity of purpose among our agencies,” he said, assuring the NIS Comptroller of the Corps’ continued support.
He highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering and information sharing in tackling criminal activities, adding that the NSCDC remains committed to joint operations, capacity building, and coordinated enforcement efforts.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
