The Governor of Mai Mala Buni has declared that Northern Nigeria owes political support to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, citing his longstanding backing of past Northern presidential candidates.

Governor Buni made the remarks during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of ₦1.2 billion in cash donations and 100 trucks of rice to vulnerable citizens across the 19 Northern states, ahead of the Eid al-Kabir celebrations. The intervention is spearheaded by the Office of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Kabiru Masari.

Speaking at the event, Buni highlighted what he described as Tinubu’s consistent record of political support for Northern leaders, dating back several decades. He noted that Tinubu backed the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua in 1992, supported Atiku Abubakar in 2003, and later threw his weight behind the late Muhammadu Buhari during the 2011 and 2015 presidential elections.

According to the governor, such a history of political alignment and support underscores the need for reciprocity from the North as the country looks ahead to future electoral cycles.

The distribution of cash and food items is aimed at cushioning the economic impact on vulnerable households and ensuring a more inclusive celebration of the upcoming Sallah festival across the region.

The initiative forms part of broader federal efforts to provide social support and strengthen national unity during key festive periods.
