Notorious Bandit Commander Kachalla Sani Yellow Reportedly Killed in Zamfara as Fresh Violence Erupts

One of Zamfara State’s most notorious bandit commanders, Kachalla Sani Yellow, has reportedly been killed in Anka Local Government Area, marking a significant development in ongoing efforts to dismantle armed criminal networks operating across Nigeria’s North-West.

However, conflicting accounts have emerged over the circumstances surrounding his death.

Local sources told journalists that Sani Yellow was allegedly shot dead on Friday, 10 July 2026, at Dan Jibga Market in Anka by armed men believed to be loyal to rival bandit kingpin Dogo Gide.

According to the sources, the attackers ambushed the notorious commander in broad daylight while he was reportedly carrying out activities at the market before fleeing the scene.

Residents familiar with the activities of armed groups in the area described the incident as another sign of the growing rivalry among bandit factions competing for territorial control and influence in Zamfara State.

However, separate security sources claimed that Yellow was neutralised during a recent coordinated security operation involving security personnel and members of the Maiduguri Special Vigilantes, who have been supporting ongoing counter-banditry operations in parts of the state.

The sources said the operation formed part of sustained offensives targeting criminal hideouts and high-profile bandit leaders operating within Anka and surrounding areas.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not officially confirmed which account accurately reflects the circumstances surrounding Yellow’s death.

Despite the conflicting reports, security observers described the reported elimination of the notorious commander as a major setback for criminal groups operating across Zamfara and neighbouring states.

Sani Yellow was widely regarded as one of the most influential bandit commanders operating in the forests of Anka, Bukkuyum, Maru and surrounding local government areas. He was allegedly linked to numerous attacks on rural communities, mass kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling and violent raids that forced thousands of residents to flee their homes.

Meanwhile, fresh violence has reportedly erupted in Tsafe Local Government Area, where armed men suspected to be loyal to another notorious bandit leader, Adamu Aliero, allegedly launched retaliatory attacks on several communities.

According to local sources, at least two residents were killed, while more than 60 people were abducted during the attacks. The assailants were also said to have looted food supplies and livestock before retreating into nearby forest hideouts.

Residents believe the attacks may be connected to the recent deaths of prominent bandit commanders during ongoing security operations and clashes among rival criminal groups.

In response, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, alongside the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, have reportedly intensified patrols and launched pursuit operations aimed at rescuing the abducted victims, apprehending those responsible and preventing further retaliatory attacks across affected communities.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement confirming the reported death of Kachalla Sani Yellow or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
