The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a father and his son for allegedly being in possession of four single-barrel guns concealed inside a sack during a routine stop-and-search operation in Yenagoa.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement, saying operatives of the Anti-Vice Unit intercepted a tricycle conveying the two suspects along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway.
According to the police, the suspects, identified as Tibi and his son, Oyabrade, both from Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, were apprehended during the operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly travelling to Abua in Rivers State when security operatives searched the tricycle.
During the search, officers reportedly recovered four single-barrel guns hidden inside a sack and covered with sticks in what police described as an attempt to evade detection.
The Police Command said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yenagoa, for further investigation to determine the source of the firearms and identify any other individuals connected to the alleged offence.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the proliferation of illegal firearms and other violent crimes across Bayelsa State.
It also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state.
