Police Reaffirms Commitment to Due Process, Investigates Allegations Against Senior Officer
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to due process, institutional discipline and the rule of law, assuring the public that allegations against any of its officers will be thoroughly investigated through established legal and administrative procedures.
In a statement, the Force explained that the criminal case involving social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, is already before a court of competent jurisdiction, following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The Police noted that the matter is therefore sub judice and should be determined through the judicial process rather than media campaigns, public commentary or trial by the court of public opinion.
Meanwhile, the Force confirmed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has invited the AIG in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh, for questioning in connection with the allegations.
The Force further disclosed that VeryDarkMan was formally invited by the FCID in Abuja on 30 July 2026 to provide evidence and substantiate the allegations he made publicly.
The Police stressed that no officer is above the law, adding that every genuine complaint will be treated seriously and investigated in accordance with established procedures.
According to the Force, any officer found culpable after due investigation will face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Police Act 2020 and relevant Force regulations.
The Nigeria Police Force consequently urged all parties involved to respect the ongoing judicial process and utilise lawful complaint and investigative mechanisms in resolving grievances.
The Force assured Nigerians that it remains committed to strengthening accountability, professionalism and public confidence while ensuring that allegations of misconduct are addressed fairly, transparently and within the framework of the law.
