Tinubu Commissions Karu Road Network, Says Infrastructure Will Boost Economy, Ease Traffic in FCT

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network from the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction, alongside other adjoining roads in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure, easing urban congestion and enhancing the living standards of Nigerians.

The commissioning, held on Monday, came one week after the President inaugurated the Karu Satellite Town Water Supply Network in the same community.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu described the road project as a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that infrastructure development remains central to his administration’s economic transformation strategy.

He said the rehabilitation and expansion of the roads would not only improve mobility but also stimulate economic activities by creating a more conducive environment for businesses and residents.

“When we assumed office in 2023, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live, work and commute. This project stands as a clear testament to our promise to resolve urban congestion and uplift the living standards of our people,” the President said.

Tinubu noted that the Karu corridor, a major gateway linking the FCT with neighbouring states, had for years experienced severe traffic congestion that negatively affected productivity and daily life.

According to him, the completed project has significantly reduced travel time, eliminated persistent gridlock and created better conditions for commercial activities in one of the FCT’s busiest satellite towns.

The President also highlighted the installation of modern solar-powered streetlights along the corridor, saying the initiative would enhance security, improve visibility at night and reduce crime along the route.

He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his focused supervision and commitment to implementing the administration’s urban renewal agenda across Abuja and its satellite communities.

Tinubu also praised Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited for delivering the project to a high standard and within schedule, noting that the company had demonstrated the capacity of Nigerian firms to execute world-class infrastructure projects.

The President urged traditional rulers, market women, youth groups and residents of Karu to safeguard the infrastructure by preventing vandalism, avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal that could block drainage systems and ensuring the roads continue to serve as a catalyst for commerce, safety and community development.

Earlier, Wike described President Tinubu’s support for the FCT Administration as unprecedented, saying it had accelerated the delivery of critical infrastructure projects across the territory.

He assured residents that the administration would sustain the current pace of development while commending the contractor for its professionalism and commitment to delivering quality work.

Presenting an overview of the project, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, said the project includes the rehabilitation and expansion of roads, construction of drainage systems and walkways, as well as the installation of solar-powered streetlights.

He noted that the infrastructure would significantly improve transportation, economic activities and the overall quality of life in Karu, the FCT’s most populous satellite town.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by lawmakers, senior government officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from across the Federal Capital Territory.
