Tinubu Congratulates Winners of Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, Delta By-Elections
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the winners of the legislative by-elections conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, across five constituencies in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) won four of the five seats, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) secured one seat in Bauchi State. The elections comprised one federal constituency and four State House of Assembly constituencies, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The successful APC candidates are Kallamu MaiJama’a of the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Husseini Datti of Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State; Okolosi Ator of Udu State Constituency in Delta State; and Yakubu Ali of Disina State Constituency in Bauchi State.
Adamu Yakubu of the APM won the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi State.
In his congratulatory message, President Tinubu said the victories recorded by APC candidates demonstrated what he described as continued confidence in the party and its capacity to govern and implement its programmes.
“I am encouraged by the support Nigerians at the grassroots continue to show for our party and for the difficult but necessary reforms our administration has implemented over the past three years,” the President said.
He urged the newly elected lawmakers to justify the confidence placed in them by their constituents through diligent and effective representation.
Tinubu also called on the other candidates to accept the election results in good faith and continue contributing to Nigeria’s democratic process.
The President commended voters and security agencies for maintaining peace and order during the polls and praised INEC for conducting the by-elections.
He urged the electoral commission to build on the progress recorded during the exercise and address identified shortcomings ahead of future elections, including the 2027 general elections.
INEC’s current timetable schedules the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
