Yobe Court Sentences Man to Death by Hanging for Killing Wife

The Yobe State High Court 1, sitting in Damaturu, has sentenced a 45-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, popularly known as Daddy, to death by hanging for killing his wife, Ammi Mamman, in 2024.

The convict was arrested by the Yobe State Police Command on January 4, 2024, following the alleged killing of his wife at New Bra-Bra Housing Estate in Damaturu. He was subsequently charged with culpable homicide.

Delivering judgment about two years after the incident, the presiding judge rejected the defendant’s plea of not guilty, ruling that the prosecution had established all the essential elements of culpable homicide and proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court held that the evidence presented by the prosecution was sufficient to establish the defendant’s guilt, leading to his conviction and sentence.

However, the convict retains the right to appeal the judgment within the period prescribed by law.

The judgment marks the conclusion of the trial at the High Court, subject to any appeal that may be filed in accordance with the law.
