Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo Resigns Amid Political Tension

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has resigned from office, citing the need to ensure stability in governance and allow the office to function effectively.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which described the decision as difficult but necessary in the overall interest of the people of Kano State.

According to the statement, recent developments had significantly constrained Gwarzo’s ability to fully discharge the responsibilities of his office, making it imperative to step aside in order to maintain effective governance.

The movement, however, dismissed any suggestion that the resignation was an admission of wrongdoing, particularly in relation to allegations raised by the Kano State House of Assembly. It maintained that the former deputy governor remains confident in his integrity and record in public service.

The resignation comes amid moves by the Kano Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings over alleged misconduct and issues related to the discharge of his duties.

Describing the move as an act of statesmanship, the Kwankwasiyya Movement said the decision was aimed at easing political tension and preventing disruptions to governance and development in the state.

Going forward, Gwarzo is expected to channel his efforts into strengthening the movement’s political structures and engaging in strategic realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also appealed to its supporters and residents of the state to remain calm as the political situation continues to evolve.
