President Samia Takes Firm Stand, Gives South Africans 48 Hours to Leave

The President of Samia Suluhu Hassan has reportedly issued a 48-hour ultimatum for South African nationals to leave Tanzania, in a move that signals escalating diplomatic tensions between the East African nation and South Africa.

According to the announcement, the Tanzanian government has also ordered the immediate closure of borders between both countries and suspended the export of Tanzanian goods to South Africa. The development follows growing concerns over reported xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants within South Africa.

In a strongly worded statement, President Hassan condemned the alleged violence, accusing South Africa of failing to uphold the spirit of African unity. She stressed that such actions contradict the historical solidarity shown by African nations during South Africa’s struggle against the Apartheid.

The Tanzanian leader further noted that countries like Tanzania played key roles in supporting liberation movements and hosting exiles during the apartheid era, adding that the recent developments represent a departure from those shared values.

The measures, if fully implemented, could have far-reaching implications for trade, regional cooperation, and diplomatic relations across the continent. Analysts warn that the situation may also affect economic ties and mobility between both nations if not addressed through dialogue.

As of press time, there has been no official response from the South African government regarding the ultimatum and border measures. Diplomatic observers, however, are calling for urgent engagement to de-escalate tensions and preserve regional stability.
