King Charles III Receives Nigeria’s High Commissioner to UK at St James’s Palace

King Charles III has formally received Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu, during the presentation of his Letters of Credence at St James’s Palace.

Dalhatu, accompanied by his wife, attended the ceremony in London on Wednesday, officially confirming his appointment as Nigeria’s representative to the United Kingdom.

The presentation of Letters of Credence is a longstanding diplomatic tradition through which ambassadors and high commissioners are formally accredited by the host nation’s head of state before fully assuming their diplomatic responsibilities.

Reacting to the development, the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce congratulated Dalhatu, describing the ceremony as a significant milestone in Nigeria-United Kingdom diplomatic relations.

In a statement shared on its X platform on Thursday, the chamber noted that the appointment comes at a crucial moment in bilateral relations, particularly following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent state visit to Windsor Castle and amid expanding economic and diplomatic cooperation between both countries.

“The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce extends its best wishes and congratulations to Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu on the formal presentation of his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Charles III, officially marking the commencement of his tenure as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom,” the statement read.

The chamber also expressed confidence that Dalhatu’s leadership would further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the UK, deepen trade collaboration, and create more opportunities for businesses and citizens of both nations.

Nigeria and the United Kingdom maintain longstanding diplomatic and economic relations, with cooperation spanning trade, investment, education, security, and cultural exchange.
