A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Nasir El-Rufai in the sum of N100 million over alleged national security-related offences.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who delivered the ruling on Monday, imposed strict bail conditions on the former governor, including the provision of one surety in like sum.
According to the court, the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court registry.
The court further directed that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide evidence of salary payments for at least three months, alongside an affidavit of means.
Justice Abdulmalik also ordered El-Rufai to surrender all valid international passports and report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month at 10 a.m. pending the determination of the case.
El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to a five-count amended charge bordering on alleged breach of national security and unlawful handling of sensitive information.
The DSS accused the former Kaduna governor of compromising public safety through the alleged unlawful interception of sensitive communications linked to national security matters.
