The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is set to establish a strategic partnership with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to showcase its achievements in human capital development within the oil and gas industry and support the Federal Government’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Executive Secretary of PTDF, Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, disclosed this when he received the Director-General of FRCN, Dr Mohammed Bulama, and members of the corporation’s management team during a courtesy visit to the Fund.
Professor Aliyu said PTDF remained committed to collaborating with institutions whose activities contribute to national development, stressing that strategic partnerships were essential to expanding the impact of the Fund’s programmes.
He recalled FRCN’s influential role during the 1970s and 1980s, when the organisation served as a major platform for shaping public discourse and informing Nigerians on issues of national importance.
The PTDF Executive Secretary pledged the Fund’s support towards strengthening FRCN’s capacity to continue playing an important role in public enlightenment and national development.
He described radio as one of the most effective channels for reaching Nigerians, particularly people in rural and underserved communities, with reliable information and public education.
Professor Aliyu, however, expressed concern over the increasing spread of misinformation and unverified information across the media landscape, warning that such trends could fuel division, social tension and declining patriotism.
He therefore called for greater commitment to responsible journalism, fact-based reporting and accurate information dissemination, noting that credible media remains essential to national unity and social cohesion.
FRCN Seeks Wider Public Awareness of PTDF Programmes
Earlier, the FRCN Director-General, Dr Mohammed Bulama, said the visit was aimed at exploring a mutually beneficial partnership that would enable the corporation to promote public awareness of PTDF’s programmes, projects and achievements.
He said FRCN was prepared to support the Fund’s capacity-development mandate by using its extensive broadcasting network to reach more Nigerians and highlight opportunities and interventions available through PTDF.
The proposed collaboration is expected to strengthen public understanding of PTDF’s contribution to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector while expanding awareness of its human-capital development initiatives.
The partnership also reflects growing efforts by public institutions to leverage the reach of the media in promoting government programmes, supporting national development and ensuring that Nigerians have access to credible and timely information.
