Army Foils Planned Attack on Plateau Community, Recovers Five Firearms

Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have intensified security operations to prevent a suspected attack on Mwar Community in Chakfem Kingdom, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, following credible intelligence of an imminent threat by suspected bandit militias.

The intelligence, received on 19 August 2026, reportedly indicated that the planned attack could be linked to the alleged rustling of an unconfirmed number of cattle by some youths from the community.

In response, troops launched a fighting patrol and targeted operations in the area with the objectives of recovering the missing livestock and apprehending those suspected to be responsible.

Upon arrival, troops deployed drones and other surveillance capabilities to conduct extensive reconnaissance of surrounding settlements and bush locations in search of the missing cattle. Although the livestock was not recovered, further intelligence identified Pantong Stanley and other youths from the community as suspected perpetrators.

Acting on the intelligence, troops conducted a snap raid on Stanley’s residence. Although he was not present at the time of the operation, the raid led to the recovery of five firearms, comprising:

One AK-47 rifle

One locally fabricated AK-47 rifle

One locally fabricated revolver rifle

Two Dane guns

15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition

The Army, in collaboration with the Police and other relevant security agencies, has continued targeted searches around locations associated with other identified suspects.

The ongoing operations are aimed at recovering the missing cattle, locating additional illegal arms caches and apprehending individuals linked to the alleged activities.

Operation ENDURING PEACE urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information on suspicious activities to security agencies.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to preventing the proliferation of illegal firearms, protecting vulnerable communities and denying criminal elements the opportunity to disrupt peace and security across Plateau State and the wider North-Central region.
