CDS Reaffirms Military’s Commitment to Securing Nigeria’s Oil Sector, Targets 2.2 Million BPD

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reiterated the military’s dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, vowing full implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to boost production output.

Speaking during a high-level security engagement in Port Harcourt, General Musa underscored the strategic importance of oil production to Nigeria’s socio-economic stability. He noted that recent interventions had raised crude oil output beyond 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) but emphasized the need for intensified collaboration to achieve the presidential target of 2.2 million bpd.

“Our collective efforts have yielded significant progress, but we must remain steadfast in securing critical oil infrastructure and ensuring steady production growth,” General Musa stated. He called for a multi-stakeholder approach that is inclusive, comprehensive, and pragmatic in addressing sectoral challenges.
