The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an indoor cannabis cultivation operation inside a residential property in the state as part of efforts to tackle drug abuse and trafficking.
Footage from the operation showed a room allegedly converted into a cannabis farm, where the plants were being cultivated in cups under a controlled system. The plants reportedly required at least three months to mature before harvesting and sale.
A man linked to the property told investigators that he had allowed a foreign national, who was facing difficulties in Nigeria, to use the room after offering to help him return to his home country.
He claimed that the idea to cultivate cannabis came from the foreign national and insisted that he had no intention of making money from the operation.
According to him, he agreed to the arrangement out of a desire to assist the individual, but the alleged operation came to light when the foreign national attempted to sell the cultivated plants.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police described the discovery as another breakthrough in the Command’s efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking.
The Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant in their neighbourhoods and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
