“Protecting lives and properties is my top priority – Kebbi Gov

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has vowed to roll out new and urgent measures to ensure the protection of all law-abiding residents in the state.

Responding to attacks and killing of security personnel and some residents in Danko Wasagu Local Government and other adjoining villages by armed bandits, the Governor said: “My administration will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that we do the needful in this direction.

According to him, the state government will in collaboration with the security agencies, Traditional Rulers and all the key stakeholders tackle the issue of insecurity in the state.

“As usual, we will not handle the issue of the security of lives and properties of all law abiding citizens with laxity, for them to freely and peacefully conduct all meaningful socio-economic activities,” Bagudu added.

According to the Special Adviser (SA) Media to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki, the further assured that the state government will facilitate the urgent deployment of more policemen, to further guarantee the safety of lives and properties.

“It could be recalled that, about two hundred additional policemen were recently deployed. This is in addition to more security measures we will not disclose here.

“These cogent measures are aimed at combating the wanton killings, maiming, and destruction of properties and displacement of people.

“This is to enable the people to urgently restart their lives and peacefully conduct all their farming and other socioeconomic activities,” Bagudu, averred.

He noted that, the state government had not out rightly banned the activities of the self-volunteer group (Yan Sakai), because,” it is a good system, though infiltrated by some unpatriotic and heinous bad eggs.

“We should collectively work, dialogue, be tolerant with each other and be peaceful and law abiding.

“This is to collectively find our common enemies, the bandits. It’s also by doing this, irrespective of any religious or ethnic differences, that we will have sustainable peace and unity.”

Bagudu further warned the people against rumour mongering and always be their brothers’ keepers.

Governor Bagudu who stopover at Ribah General Hospital to sympathize with two victims who sustained injuries during the attack, announced that the State Government will dish out relief assistance to the victims and affected families.
