The president stated this while speaking at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Makurdi while inducting two cutting-edge T-129 ATAK helicopters and a King Air 360ER helicopter into the NAF’s Order of Battle (ORBAT).

This was contained in a press statement issued by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The statement underscored the gravity of this momentous occasion. These formidable additions symbolise not only technological prowess but also a solemn vow to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty.

The President, who was presented by his Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, expressed unwavering confidence in the combat efficiency of these newly acquired platforms.

“Their deployment promises to bolster counterinsurgency, counterterrorism, and anti-crime operations both within Nigeria and across the West African region.
President Tinubu’s call for discipline in operations and a robust maintenance culture resonated with the audience. As the NAF stands tall as a dependable regional power, his administration remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting our defenders.

Reflecting on his earlier promise to eradicate terrorism, insurgency, and kidnapping, President Tinubu struck a sombre note.

While progress has been made, he cautioned against premature celebration. The battle against insecurity continues, and only when every challenge is met head-on can we truly breathe easy.

“Today, the skies bear witness to Nigeria’s resolve. With these new wings of defence, hope soars high, and the nation stands united in its pursuit of peace and security.

Also speaking, the Minister of Defence, Dr. Badaru Abubakar, acknowledged the sincerity of the purpose of the President towards restoring peace in every part of Nigeria.

He then expressed his gratitude to the President for his foresight, resilient leadership, and unwavering support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, despite the numerous challenges confronting the nation.

The Minister also reiterated the need for adherence to maintenance schedules and the implementation of robust safety practices to ensure the sustained serviceability status of the aircraft so as to derive maximum benefit for the nation.

He urged NAF personnel to align their individual and collective actions with the vision of the President, emphasising the pursuit of peace, stability, and rapid development objectives.

Earlier, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, had noted that the induction ceremony bears glowing testimony to the Federal Government’s unwavering resolve to equip and energise the NAF, and indeed the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, towards combating terrorism and other threats facing the nation.
The CAS also disclosed that since Mr. President assumed office, the NAF has inducted five new aircraft into its fleet, including two Diamond 62 surveillance aircraft, two T-129 ATAK helicopters, and a King Air 360 ER.

While emphasising the importance of these acquisitions in line with the President’s commitment to national security, the CAS highlighted the NAF’s plan to induct 46 new aircraft of various types over the next 18 months.

Further, Air Marshal Abubakar assured Nigerians that though the NAF is operationally engaged on all fronts, it will not rest until it brings the war to a favourable end to ensure the peace and stability that Nigerians deserve. He then urged all Nigerians to keep faith and hope in the advancement and prosperity of the nation.
