The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Israel in key sectors, including agriculture, security, education, healthcare and technology, as part of efforts to accelerate Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stated this while receiving the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, during a meeting in Abuja.

Akume noted that Nigeria possesses vast agricultural resources, a large and youthful population, and significant economic potential that can be further harnessed through strategic international partnerships and investments.

He commended Israel for its achievements in agriculture, healthcare, education and technology, describing the country as a global model of resilience, innovation and development despite its unique challenges.

The SGF expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation between both countries would create opportunities for knowledge exchange, technology transfer and investment capable of supporting Nigeria’s development agenda.

In his remarks, Ambassador Freeman reaffirmed Israel’s readiness to work closely with Nigeria to boost food production through the deployment of advanced agricultural technologies, innovation and capacity-building programmes.

He also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in the security sector, particularly in the areas of counterterrorism, cybersecurity, border security and specialised training.

According to the ambassador, Nigeria and Israel face similar security challenges that require innovative solutions and stronger cooperation between both nations.

Freeman emphasized that strengthening bilateral engagement would not only improve food security and technological development but also contribute to addressing emerging security threats.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to expanding cooperation in critical sectors aimed at promoting economic growth, improving livelihoods and enhancing national security.

Nigeria and Israel have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with both nations continuing to explore new avenues for partnership in trade, innovation, agriculture and security.
