Troops of the Nigerian Army 8 Division have neutralised two terrorists and recovered two AK-103-2 rifles, ammunition and motorcycles during clearance operations across Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
The operations, conducted on August 14, 2026, saw the troops clear several communities as part of sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and restore security across the area.
In Kaura Namoda LGA, the troops conducted clearance operations in Ungwan Sarkin Musulmi, Gidan Dutsi, Gidan Gini, Gidan Sambo, Dayau, Madiara and Dabah, before advancing into Birnin Magaji LGA.
The troops subsequently cleared Birnin Magaji Town, Dumpami, Gabake, Gidan Katakare, Godel, Kasheni-Kura, Dan-Wala, Sabon-Birni and Garin Kaso.
During the operation, surveillance at Dumpami detected the presence of suspected terrorists around Magari Village. Troops later made contact with the terrorists at Garin Kaso, where two were neutralised.
A search of the area led to the recovery of two AK-103-2 rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and two motorcycles.
Troops Fight Through Terrorist Ambush
However, while withdrawing from Gidan Kaso, the troops came under an ambush from terrorists concealed in millet farms on both sides of the road.
The soldiers successfully fought through the ambush, with an unconfirmed number of terrorists reportedly neutralised during the encounter.
One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to the right upper arm and was immediately evacuated to a General Hospital for medical treatment.
The operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued offensive against terrorist and criminal elements in Zamfara State, with troops maintaining pressure on hostile groups, disrupting their movements and denying them freedom of action.
The sustained clearance operations are also aimed at protecting vulnerable communities, securing key areas and creating a safer environment for residents across the state.
