The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued an abandoned newborn baby boy found wrapped in a nylon bag in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The baby, who was reportedly in critical condition at the time of rescue, was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the infant sustained bruises on his hand and one of his arms.
The Command has appealed to residents of Bwari and neighbouring communities to provide useful information that could help identify the baby’s mother and establish the circumstances surrounding his abandonment.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the FCT Police Command’s Gender Officer on 08036259662.
The Police Command also urged women facing unwanted pregnancies or difficult circumstances to seek assistance from social welfare offices or police stations rather than abandon their babies.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring the safety and welfare of vulnerable members of society.
