The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Musa, has called for accelerated efforts in implementing policies and programs that promote women’s empowerment and inclusion.
Speaking during a Health Walk organized by DEPOWA to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day, Musa emphasized the need for collective action to bridge gender gaps.
The event, themed “Women and Health #AccelerateAction,” was held in Abuja on Saturday.
Musa highlighted that while progress is being made toward gender equality, women and girls worldwide still face significant challenges, including discrimination, violence, female genital mutilation, and limited access to opportunities.
“Despite these challenges, women have consistently demonstrated resilience, determination, and collective action. We have seen firsthand the impact that women have when they serve and lead whether on the battlefield or in the boardroom, women are breaking barriers,” she stated.

She reaffirmed DEPOWA’s commitment to empowering women and supporting families in need, adding that the organization remains dedicated to fostering a more inclusive society.
“Today, we are not only celebrating the achievements of women but also recommitting ourselves to the pursuit of gender parity. We are calling on institutions and individuals to accelerate action and implement more policies that promote women’s empowerment,” Musa said.
The DEPOWA President also expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her continuous support of DEPOWA’s initiatives through the Renewed Hope Initiative and her advocacy for women’s empowerment.
The event saw the participation of wives of military, police, and paramilitary personnel, all joining the health walk to raise awareness about the importance of women’s health and inclusion in national development.
As Nigeria joined the global celebration of International Women’s Day, Musa’s message served as a clarion call for institutions and individuals to take concrete steps toward gender equity and the empowerment of women across all sectors.
