In a powerful blend of energy, discipline, and community spirit, Mrs. Oghogho G. Musa, President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), led hundreds of women from various security agencies’ wives associations in an invigorating early morning aerobics session at the Aguyi Ironsi Sports Hall, Guards Brigade, Abuja.

The event, which took place under the cool calm of a Saturday morning, was not just a routine workout—it was a vibrant celebration of wellness, time management, and inter-agency solidarity among women supporting Nigeria’s frontline service personnel.

Before the sweat and music began, participants dutifully signed an attendance register, marking a culture of structure and accountability championed by DEPOWA. In another corner, a stationed medical team checked vital signs, including blood pressure and heart rate, reflecting a holistic approach to the initiative that prioritizes prevention and early intervention.

“This is more than exercise,” Mrs. Musa told participants after the high-impact session. “It’s about creating a lifestyle of wellness—physical, mental, and emotional. As women, as mothers, and as wives of officers serving this country, we must prioritize our health and lead by example.”

Professional fitness instructors guided the women through a lively routine of warm-ups, stretches, and dance-based aerobics, turning the arena into a chorus of laughter, unity, and movement. Dressed in colorful sportswear, participants mirrored each other’s steps with rhythm and determination, igniting the spirit of community and healthy living.

Mrs. Musa used the platform to hammer on the importance of punctuality. “Timeliness is part of discipline,” she said. “When we show up early, we demonstrate seriousness and make the most of these opportunities to improve our lives.”

To reward discipline and encourage consistency, the first 100 women who arrived before 7:00 a.m. received yoga mats. Each participant also went home with a green fruit pack and bottled water—gifts that reinforced DEPOWA’s message of hydration and healthy eating.

The event saw a strong turnout from sister associations, reflecting the shared vision across security families. Notable attendees included Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), who praised the initiative as a catalyst for both health and camaraderie among women.

“We need more of this,” said Dr. Egbetokun. “Group exercises do not only enhance our health, they strengthen our social ties, which are vital for our emotional resilience.”

Also in attendance was Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), who urged husbands to support their wives’ wellness journeys. “A healthy woman builds a healthy home,” she noted. “Spousal encouragement is key.”

Other dignitaries included Mrs. Rukaiya Ladle, representing the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) on behalf of Architect Dr. Mrs. Rekia Abubakar, and Mrs. Charity Adjaye, wife of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), further demonstrating cross-agency support.

The aerobic event followed a health talk held the previous day, covering vital topics such as stress management, nutrition, and the value of routine medical checks. The seamless follow-up from talk to action underscored DEPOWA’s structured approach to embedding wellness as a lifestyle among members.

As the session ended with photographs, handshakes, and laughter, the message was loud and clear: DEPOWA is not just preaching fitness—it is institutionalizing it. Under the leadership of Mrs. Oghogho Musa, the association is redefining how security families approach health—empowering women to be the first line of wellness defense in their homes and communities.

With every heartbeat and dance step, the campaign gains traction—proving that in health, as in service, unity and discipline remain key to building stronger families and a stronger nation.
