Operation HADIN KAI Rescues Abducted Mother, Infant as Troops Intensify Offensive Against Terrorists

Troops of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have rescued a woman and her infant son abducted by terrorists, while sustaining offensive operations that continue to weaken insurgent networks across the North-East.

The military disclosed that the rescue was achieved under Operation DESERT SANITY V/SIEGE OPERATIONS, which has also led to the neutralisation of terrorists and increased surrender of insurgents’ family members.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, troops conducting offensive operations in the Amuda general area successfully intercepted and rescued Mrs. Maryam Muhammad, 20, and her son, Bello Muhammad, aged one year and four months.

The victims were among residents abducted during a terrorist attack on Ngoshe on March 3, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the mother and child had been held captive in a terrorist enclave within the Mandara Mountains before escaping after intense military bombardments forced their captors to abandon the location.

Following medical assessment and care, the rescued victims were reunited with their family through community leaders in Ngoshe.

In a related operation, troops deployed in Wulgo and the proposed Combat Outpost (COP) Jagarawaji, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, carried out clearance operations across Wulgo, Gumsari and Hausari communities.

During the operation, troops uncovered several signs of terrorist activity, including makeshift medical facilities stocked with transfusion materials and antibiotics, ammunition of 7.62mm calibre, and a uniform belonging to a terrorist commander.

Military authorities said one terrorist was neutralised during the operation, while no casualties were recorded among security personnel.

The military also reported that sustained pressure on insurgent enclaves is forcing family members of terrorists to flee and surrender to troops.

At the Gwoza axis, a 50-year-old woman identified as Ghwa’a Biwa escaped from a terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountains and surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion. She reportedly cited continuous military offensives and worsening living conditions within the camps as reasons for her decision.

Similarly, Binta Umaru, 19, and her two-year-old daughter, Hafsat Ibrahim, escaped from another terrorist enclave and surrendered to troops stationed along the Gwoza-Limankara road.

Military authorities stated that all surrendered individuals have been screened, documented and are undergoing further profiling in line with established procedures.

Operation HADIN KAI noted that the latest developments demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing operations and the gradual dismantling of terrorist support structures, particularly around the Mandara Mountains and border communities.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups, rescuing abducted civilians, and restoring lasting peace, security and economic stability across the North-East.

The military high command commended troops for their operational successes and urged them to sustain the momentum in the collective interest of national security.
