The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, has carried out unannounced welfare visits to police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory to assess the living conditions and economic challenges facing police families.

The visits, conducted between July 14 and 15, 2026, covered Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and 44 PMF Barracks, Kuje, ahead of the forthcoming POWA National Convention.

During the outreach, Chief Disu and members of her management team moved through the markets at Area C Police Barracks and engaged directly with women traders, widows and spouses of serving police officers.

The team observed that several shops were poorly stocked and listened to the concerns of beneficiaries, who shared their experiences and the economic challenges affecting their families.

As part of the immediate intervention, selected beneficiaries received cash grants, business starter packs and food items to enable them to restock their businesses and strengthen their household income.

Speaking during the visit, Chief Disu explained that the decision to conduct the visits without prior notice was deliberate, saying it was aimed at obtaining an authentic assessment of the challenges confronting police families.

She stressed that firsthand knowledge of the realities faced by police families would enable POWA to design interventions that directly address their needs.

The outreach was conducted under the POWA CARES Initiative, which focuses on healthcare, welfare and economic empowerment for police families. The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON.

The outreach also precedes the POWA National Convention scheduled to hold from July 16 to 18, 2026, under the theme: “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace.”

The convention will focus on healthcare, mental wellness, economic empowerment and family support systems.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to providing practical and dignity-preserving support for widows of fallen officers and families of serving personnel.
