In a promising development, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) is set to complete state-of-the-art medical intervention projects at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano this year.

The projects encompass a Surgical and Diagnostic Center, Laboratory, Maternity Ward, and Accident Ward within the hospital premises.

Speaking to reporters during the 38th Convocation Lecture of Bayero University Kano, Mansur Ahmed, Senior Advisor to the President of Dangote Group, assured that the long-awaited health intervention project would be ready in a matter of months. He explained that the delay was attributed to substantial expansion and modifications made to the original plan.

Ahmed stated, “The project has quadrupled, so has the cost. That means we had to go back to the drawing board.” Emphasising the significance of the expansion for the growing Kano population, he noted that Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group and a Kano native, strives for the best for his home state.

The Senior Advisor acknowledged the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, causing delays globally. Expressing gratitude for the people of Kano’s patience, he revealed that additional intervention areas are planned for the state by the company.

Highlighting previous contributions, Ahmed mentioned Dangote’s donation of a N1.2 billion modern business school edifice to Bayero University and a total spending of approximately N10 billion on various intervention projects in Kano since 2012. He detailed initiatives such as empowering 256,500 women across six Northern States with N2.5 billion and allocating N1.2 billion for providing free meals to the general public. Additionally, the foundation funded the pilot test of seasonal malaria chemoprevention in Kano by the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).

In a related development, Aliko Dangote unveiled an 11-point industrialisation blueprint for Nigeria during the 38th Convocation Lecture. Represented by Mansur Ahmed, Dangote emphasised a knowledge-based system to drive the roadmap, focusing on pillars such as education, research and development, technological advancements, entrepreneurship, innovation culture, and human capital development for the country’s industrialization and sustainable knowledge economy. Other advocated pillars included infrastructure development, supportive policy frameworks, international collaboration, adaptation and flexibility, enabling environment, and a shift toward knowledge-intensive economic sectors.
