Power Bank Fire Forces IndiGo Flight to Make Emergency Landing in India

A passenger aircraft operated by IndiGo was forced to make an emergency landing in Hyderabad, India, after a power bank reportedly caught fire mid-air during a flight from Delhi to Chennai.

The incident occurred on October 11 aboard Airbus A321 flight 6E 6115, when smoke reportedly began emanating from a passenger’s personal electronic device.

Dramatic footage of the incident showed flames inside an overhead compartment as cabin crew members attempted to extinguish the fire, while frightened passengers could be heard screaming.

The aircraft was diverted to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad as a precautionary measure following the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the aircraft landed safely, with no injuries or casualties reported.

The incident highlights the potential safety risks posed by lithium-ion batteries in portable electronic devices, including power banks, when they overheat or catch fire aboard aircraft.
